The Iron Maiden

The Iron Maiden represents “All females Inner Strength”

When I created this sculpture, I took ownership of the female form and reimagined it as a symbol of quiet power. The faceless torso, with no arms or legs, may appear vulnerable at first glance - but it speaks to the inherent strength within every woman. By leaving out identifying features, The Iron Maiden becomes a universal figure, one that invites each viewer to see themselves or someone they love.

Constructed from over 2,000 welded steel washers the form plays with contrast. The industrial material becomes soft and fluid, draping the body like lace. The openings in the washers let you glimpse the space beneath, reminding us that what we carry on the surface is only part of the story.

This sculpture honours resilience, femininity and the strength that often lies hidden in plain sight.
