Hi, I'm Carol
The fibre and metal artist behind May and Myrtle. The name is a tribute to my grandmothers, May & Myrtle, whose creativity and resilience continue to inspire me.
I grew up on the Central Coast, above our family’s boat hiring business. My dad was a shipwright, and from a young age I was surrounded by rope. He taught me to tie marine knots - skills that quietly shaped my creative journey.
Today I see knots as a universal language. They connect history, culture and art - blending beauty with function. That intersection is where my artwork comes to life.
My art ranges from delicate hand sized knots to large scale installations. I work with natural fibres and metals - cotton, wool, marine rope, driftwood, copper and steel - creating sculptural artworks that have found homes with private collectors across Australia, the UK, Malta, Asia and the U.S.
At 50, I returned to complete my HSC. For my art major I chose to learn how to weld - and discovered a new creative medium in steel.
I now live on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where I draw daily inspiration from the bushland and ocean that surround me. My materials and methods are always evolving - and so is my art.
